Kukuwu Coffee: Questions and Answers
Kukuwu is a US company with a focus on the Caribbean, and its coffees are not officially available yet. Here are short answers about where they come from, how they are grown, and how to ask about them.

Where does Kukuwu coffee come from?
All five Kukuwu coffees are single-origin Colombian coffees, grown in Caldas and Nariño.
How is Kukuwu coffee sourced?
Through a roasting partner that works across many smallholder farms in Colombia. Kukuwu chooses the coffees and the partner roasts them; Kukuwu's relationship is with the roaster, not directly with the farms.
How is the coffee processed?
It depends on the coffee. Tropical Dulce Dream is natural: the whole coffee cherry dries before the bean is hulled. Caldas Geisha Harmony, Nariño Sweet Symphony, Caldas Serenity Now and Chinchiná Harmony Roast are washed: the fruit is removed before the bean dries.
How are Kukuwu coffees scored?
On the Specialty Coffee Association scale: Nariño Sweet Symphony, 85 and above; Caldas Serenity Now, 84 to 84.5; Chinchiná Harmony Roast, 85.5. The other coffees have no published score.
Is Kukuwu coffee non-GMO?
Yes. Every Kukuwu coffee is non-GMO.
What does single-origin mean?
Each Kukuwu coffee comes from one region of Colombia rather than a blend of origins, so the cup reflects the place where it was grown.
Is Tropical Dulce Dream a flavored coffee?
No. Coconut and caramel describe how the coffee tastes, and together they bring a Colombian candy to mind. Nothing is added.
What is in Caldas Serenity Now?
Washed coffee from the Santa Cruz de la Palma farm and local growers in Chinchiná, Caldas, infused with CBD. Its cup is sweet and clean, with herbal undertones.
Which Kukuwu coffee is roasted light?
Caldas Geisha Harmony, from Villamaría and Risaralda in Caldas. The light roast lets its soft, chamomile florals and juicy citrus come through.
Which Kukuwu coffee is made for every day?
Chinchiná Harmony Roast: bright and sweet, with a light body, roasted for daily drinking.
Do Kukuwu coffees come as whole beans or ground?
As whole beans. On request, they can also be ground or packed in single-serve capsules; to ask, write to info@kukuwu.coffee.
How should I brew Kukuwu coffee?
With water just short of boiling, about 96 degrees Celsius (205 degrees Fahrenheit). For a full body, use a French press; for a clean, clear cup, a pour-over; for a short, concentrated one, an AeroPress. The brewing guide gives each recipe in grams, milliliters and minutes.
What is a tinto?
The everyday coffee of Colombia: a small black coffee, often sweetened with sugar or panela, offered to guests and drunk at any hour of the day.
